Every Saturday for decades, the Cattleman's Special, train number 190, departed Colby, Kansas heading east for Salina. Along the Plainville Branch, the train picked up preloaded cattle cars.  After reaching Salina, a larger train was assembled and then steamed into Kansas City for Monday morning trade.

400 Class 2-8-0 Consolidations most often headed up the "Special". Numbers 486 and 489 were mainstays on the Plainville Branch.
