The Santa Fe, Prescott, and Phoenix Railroad was formed in 1891.  In 1892, construction from Ash Fork was started and completed as far as Prescott, Arizona in 1893.

Shown is an early Brooks 4-6-0 leaving the gorgeous and spectacular, geologic wonder called Granite Dells.  Because of its winding trail through the local hills, the railroad picked up the nickname "Peavine".
