"Eric Hohagen's Schwalbe, White 2 at Munchen-Riem, Germany in 1945"

In the summer of 1974, the late Dr. Robin Higham, editor of Aerospace Historian Magazine (see image below), asked me to paint Erich Hohagen's Focke-Wulf Fw-190 for an upcoming article on Hohagen.

42 years later I revisited the article and found quite a few stories on his later mount the Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe.

Dimitri Vrettos at https://www.facebook.com/groups/Messerschmitt.Fighters/ was very kind and supplied me with a wonderful amount of information on White 2.

I went with a straight forward painting of Hohagen and his White 2 landing at Flughafen Munchen-Riem in 1945. South and a bit east the runway is a little village named Salmdorf. I added Salmdorf for a bit of German hominess.
