Researching the railroads of Switzerland, I found several old castle postcards with a small steam train. The subject was too good to pass up.

The castle was built in the 13th Century and was added to throughout the centuries. Ruine Campi is located in southeast Switzerland on the Rhaetian Railway's Albula line. I had planned on a daylight painting, but at the last minute I found a Swiss rail photograph taken at sunset and that changed the complexion of the painting.
